How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
I think we show a lot about group & issues, for social group, I think our focus is on personal rather than social issues, because our funds and budgets are limited, and also our equipment also limits us to achieve a very top effect and to show our best to the audience. However as far as the group is concerned, our film opening tends to be more comfort for the 16-18 years old high school students, because our background is high school students and we recorded some of their daily routine. Because peers understand our plots better than others. And for gender, we do not have too many restrictions on gender, and our films can integrate both boys and girls.
Our production was inspired by a Japanese comic, we have looked at many comics, and came up with a story about a high school student who got up in the morning and went to school. Then there were some violent incidents during school time. Then the devil threatened the high school student, the devil told him that if you don't kill your best female friend, I will let your parents die immediately, So that male high school student was the one who killed for his parents. He always had nightmare with the devil, and he felt really scared and nervous, and he also had been brainwashed by the devil, he killed many students with a baseball bat at school. Finally, the police arrived, and he was shot dead in the resistance. We thought this plot was good, so we quoted this plot as the beginning of our movie. We chose the place for photography in my home, Arthur's home and the school elevator.
Our movie genre is thriller. By showing the general convention of Mise en scenes, the setting 爱and the background is basically in cold weather, we wanted to bring out the thriller genre by using cool backgrounds and decorations, and also in the final editing we also used a cold coulor filter to deliberately present the effect we want in final. The costume we choose outdoors are winter down jackets and cotton pants. Firstly, is to show that our background environment is winter, and secondly is to bring the audience in to this film opening and make them have the same feeling with the characters. We want to bring the audience into our plot, because the cold will make People feel nervous and tense, and that feeling just link back to our plot of tension, violence, and suspicious. In the struggling of choosing music, we tried many kinds of background music, and finally we chose a short piece of very tense and suspicious background music to add into the film opening. The final effect is perfect and reflects the quality of our movie very well. Tension, violence and suspense.
How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed a real media text?
The target audience for our film is teenagers, middle or high school students, because our plots can be best understood by our peers, and they also can resonate with our content. Because the facts reflected in our films may actually happen to us or them in our daily life and we showed the most real reality on the screen through our film opening. Then for our stereotypes and themes are mainly aimed at teenagers.
Of course, there are many ways in which we can promote the opening of our movie, such as through the Internet and applications, putting our video on Tiktok or YouTube, or making a poster and sticking it on the advertisement board in the school or in our community, and we also can ask our friends to promote these through media institution. Our film market can also attract the attention of some audiences through our own background music or studio logo, and we can also increase our market demand through games by using our background music. Afterwards, we also attach the great and important to the feedback given by the audience after watching our film opening. After everyone watched our movie, I made questionnaire about our film opening, which asked the audience what they did about editing, shooting and acting. Better or where to improve. We have also taken active steps on these issues and have received a lot of good feedback. I believe that in future film production, we will reduce mistakes to a great extent and revise our film opening repeatedly through the feedback given by the audience.
How did you production skills develop throughout this project?
A year ago, I only use my laptop for homework and gaming, I never used editing application in my life, but when I had media studies as my A levels, I started to search how to edit the clips and how could I apply different techniques in my film opening, I firstly tried a Chinese application “Jian Ying” which is a subsidies of Bite dance In editing our own studio Logo, I spent a week learning how to use Adobe After-effects. And through videos from Bilibili and YouTube, I learned to apply the studio logo template of 21st century fox, and I also added some different lights and flames nearby the logo to give the audience a better view and attraction of our name “BARS”. At that time, I also slowed down the speed of our studio logo animation because it would make our group name to be more memorable for the audiences. The skill I used was keyframes for our studio logo, and I entered Graphic Match for the for the font selection of ‘BARS’, I chose a more modern font. I had an idea, to change the font to red, because it would imply that our film is more violent and bloody.
I also learned how to place the light and set the percentage of lighting. We want to give a better view for the audience, so the lighting is very important for our film opening. Especially in this shot, I decided to arrange the lighting around the room, to create a more threating atmosphere and build strong tension for the audiences. I changed the light from warm to 50% white, because I want to use the light to illustrate the atmosphere in
How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware and online in this project?
I participated in filming, theme creation, titlesequence and questionieer. When editing the studio logo, I used Adobe After-effects to edit, and apply the studio logo template of 21st century fox, and I also added some different lights and flames nearby the logo to give the audience a better view and attraction of our name “BARS”.
But for the editing of the title sequence, I used a Chinese editing software "Jianying". By finding different fonts and adding key frames through editing. I finally found a nearly perfect title sequence. And I also need to make sure the font size is consistent and I also need to make sure the transparency of the font is in line with our background, I try not to make our title sequence stand out to the audience very much.
