The film is a remake of the Korean film of the same name in 2018, this is focusing on the safety of women living alone. Fang Hui, who works hard in a big city, lives alone and finds her home invaded by strangers

Lighting

In many horrors movie there are typically lots of the color blacks, because we understand the color signified danger, darkness, mystery. So for example in the start of the film there is a lot of the use of the color black and that is because red and black has become semantic codes for horror we understand that there have links to things like death or blood so we automatically appreciate that is a horror movie. At the beginning of the film, the light is gray and black. As the heroine passes through the dark alley, the light becomes warmer. When the heroine returned home, the light in the house was still very dark. The light also reflected that she was not particularly rich and lived in a quiet suburb. According to Barthes’s theory, when she was sleeping in bed, we could see a man's naked back blowing his hair in the bathroom, but we couldn't see who the man was. When the man walked slowly to the bedside and lowered his head, he lay next to the woman, the hermeneutic codes/enigma has been created, the impact on the audience would be let the audience guess who is this man? Why does this man appear in the bathroom right behind the bed? and how did he come in the room?

Sound

The music at the beginning of the film gives people a tense and exciting feeling, especially when the heroine opens the door and locks, we can't see the heroine open the door, but we can hear the sound of opening the door lock. In addition, she can hear the old sound of the door when she opens the door. The impact on the audience is to make the audience feel afraid and then keep up with the tense plot. If we were to see a clip or in a film of a person pulling a key out of their pocket that would be a phoretic code, which would signify to the audience that she is going to open the door

Camera

There are many birds eye scenes at the beginning of the film. These scenes show that she is very fragile and venerable, especially when she heard some strange sounds in the armoire, she began to look armoire. There was a cut when she suddenly opens the armoire to check the sound. In this action, her face shows fear and loneliness because she might think someone hide in the armoire.

Editing

The L cuts have been used in the beginning of the film which the sound appears on the screen at first and the image came out later. For example, during she opens the door, the sound of the woman put the key into to the hole came out at first, then they switched to a over shoulder shots with the woman opening the door. The impact on the audience is to let the audience know that the mood is tense and the place which she lived is dark and unsafe.

Mise en scene

There was a middle-aged greasy man with no washed hair harass and track the woman who live alone. He wears black and tracking woman during the nighttime.

The Stuart of Hall representation of stereotype the middle-aged man is greasy.

The close up shot of the feet cannot put down on the ground when she sits on the bed, which emphasizes that she is small and weak. From this picture the enigma codes which illustrate that there is a person hide under her bed and watching her. The impact on the audience would let the audience get confused by having questions who is hiding under her bed? Why does he want to hide under the bed? The audience would bring their own guess and enigma would make them feel more excited to continue to watch the film.
