Blog post 08

For the process of filming our movie opening. I did make our studio logo, title sequence editing, and our title editing to contribute to my group also I am the one of the actors in our film opening clips.

Initial reflection

What have you learned from the task?

For our film opening, I learned a lot about editing. For example, in the process of making studio logo, I learned to use key frame into our editing of the studio logo. My team members also taught me a lot of professional editing skills, how to use “JianYing” (one of the Chinese Application used for editing) to upload and integrate videos. In our movie title, the choice of font has also become very important. I chose a thicker font and a red background to show our plot about thriller

What equipment have you used?

As we all know, I was mainly responsible for the acting of our team and participated in some editing, such as the title sequence and our studio Logo. I used variety of lighting in the paly, as you can see in the following scene, we used portable RGB lights with adjustable brightness and temperature. I put them on my ceiling so that we could adjust the lights and lenses. About clothes and props, I chose common sportswear at home and brushed my teeth with my own toothbrush to reflect the true feeling of our whole story. I chose the warm coat to wear outside according to the climate at that time. I believe our play is very naturalistic and easy to understand.

What skills did you utilize (and develop)?

In editing our own studio Logo, I spent a week learning how to use Adobe After effects. Through videos from Bilibilibili and You Tube, I learned to apply the studio logo template of 21st century fox, and I added some different lights and flames nearby to make the name bars of our own group more eye-catching. At that time, I also slowed down the speed of our studio logo, because it would make our group name be more memorable for audience. As for the font selection of bars, I chose a more modern font. I once wanted to change the font to red, because it implied that our film was more violent and bloody.

What difficulties did you encounter and How did you overcome them?

I have encountered some difficulties in editing the title sequence. When I put the title sequence into our clips, I found that sometimes the title sequence would block the content, so I tried to make the font transparent, but the effect was not satisfactory, although it would make the audience see the content more clearly, but because I changed the title sequence to transparent, some letters can't be seen in the black background. This gives me a headache. Finally, I discussed with our team members, and I finally chose to put the Title sequence at the end, so as not to block the main content nor let everyone see our title sequence.

What needs to be done now?

Now that we have recorded all the shots we have thought about in advance, what we need to do is to clip all the shots we have recorded together, then summarize what shots need to be improved or remade and find out some shots that we don't think are reasonable to be modified. Our market is now 5 minutes, so there are some scenes that are not very important that we need to cut off and have some details, such as the alarm focus of the mobile phone and the focus of opening and closing the door. We also need to take some details. But overall, we have basically completed the shooting and acting work.

What problems have you noticed in your footage?

There are still many problems with our footage. For example, our footage is too long. In addition, the studiologo is 5 minutes old, and some detailed shots, such as the focus mobile phone alarm, have not been added. Of course, this is not possible. Therefore, we need to shorten the time, and delete some shots that are not particularly important or the length of each shot, to bring the best experience to the audience. Another problem is that there are some problems in our lens and lens transition. Because each lens is shot separately, it is complicated to connect them. We need to add the transition of each lens to our footprint. This will also allow the audience to have a better understanding of our footprint

Do you need to reshoot any scenes?

We have prepared most of the shots, so we don't need to reshoot them at present.
